Thanks to the work of our wonderful sponsorship officer Genevieve, you can log CPD hours for both studying with and contributing to Project Malleus.
Where Malleus fits
Australian doctors working outside a training program or supervised clinical practice complete CPD across three categories. Being involved in Malleus counts as Educational Activity, which you self-log with your CPD home.
Educational Activity
Learning that keeps your knowledge current: studying, writing and reviewing content, and teaching.
Measuring Outcomes
Using data about your own work and patient outcomes to improve your practice.
Reviewing Performance
Reflecting on feedback about your work from peers, colleagues and patients.
What you can log
Studying with the deck
Using the Malleus deck to upskill: your regular review sessions count.
Writing cards
Creating cards, including the research time spent drafting and revising them.
Maintainer meeting talks
Each fortnightly Maintainer meeting includes a 10–15 minute presentation on a clinical topic. Everyone is welcome, and both the presenter and the attendees can log it.
Reviewing cards
Checking cards for accuracy, currency, Australian relevance and referencing, and giving feedback.
Clinical discussion in meetings
The parts of meetings that focus on the clinical side of the cards, such as planning, debating and reviewing the learning.
Example log entry
Most CPD homes ask for the category, what you did and how long it took. An entry for an afternoon of card writing might look like this:
- Category
- Educational Activity
- Activity
- Wrote flashcards for Malleus Clinical Medicine, an open-source AU/NZ clinical medicine Anki deck
- Description
- Researched current Australian guidance on community-acquired pneumonia, drafted and referenced eight cards, then revised them after maintainer feedback
- Time
- 2 hours
Your CPD home sets what it accepts and how to record it, so check its requirements when you log.
